ISI Mark Certification
BIS Certification, also known as ISI Mark Certification, is a quality certification provided by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), a national standards body in India. BIS is responsible for developing and promoting standards in various sectors to ensure the safety, reliability, and quality of products, services, and systems.
The ISI Mark is a recognized symbol of quality and conformity to Indian standards. ISI Mark Certification is a mandatory certification for certain products sold in the Indian market to ensure their compliance with relevant standards and specifications. ISI Mark Certification covers a wide range of products, including electrical appliances, industrial machinery, automotive components, food products, and building materials, among others.
Obtaining BIS Certification involves a rigorous evaluation process conducted by BIS-approved laboratories and testing centers. The process includes thorough testing of the product samples to assess their compliance with the applicable Indian standards. The standards are formulated based on technical requirements, safety considerations, and other relevant factors.
Difference between BIS and ISI Mark
BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) is a quality management organization for providing quality certification and also ensuring the quality, and reliability of goods for end users. On the other hand, ISI Mark is a standard mark awarded by the Bureau of Indian Standards for the authorization of the product as per Indian standards. The ISI mark indicates that a product matches the quality standard set by the BIS. Under the product certification scheme (ISI Mark Certification), the Bureau of India Standards gives producers a certificate to use the standard (ISI Mark) on products that conform to applicable product Indian standards.
Basic Requirements for BIS ISI Mark Certification
The following are the basic requirements for obtaining a BIS ISI Mark certificate, as mentioned below:
- All testing facilities and production machinery should be located on the factory premises as per ISS norms and particular SIT.
- BIS certificate is only given to the (manufacturer of finished products), not to the Distributor/Retailer
- If a manufacturer has multiple factories, with different addresses, the company must file a separate application form for the factory location and each product.
- The laboratory should be fully equipped with product testing equipment and qualified quality control personnel for product tests in accordance with the applicable ISS.
- All procedures should be accomplished in the same factory, from receiving raw materials to final packing. If any outsourcing is needed, clearance from the BIS may be requested.
